Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended the opening session with a speech congratulating the General Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Lawyers
The 14th ASEAN Law Association General Assembly2023 took place from October 18th to 22nd 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with the participation of more than 500 delegates from ASEAN countries and some delegates from Russia, China, etc. Especially, the event was attended by the Prime Minister of Malaysia who delivered a congratulatory speech in the opening session. Within the framework of the 14th ALA General Assembly, in addition to electing a new Chairman, ALA 14th also organized a Side Meeting with the theme ASEAN TAPESTRY – OUR PRIDE (ASEAN TAPESTRY – OUR PRIDE) and the ASEAN MOOT Litigation Competition 2023 for law students of ASEAN countries.

The side conference with the theme "ASEAN tapestry of our pride" took place from October 19th and 20 with 5 sessions with the participation of nearly 30 speakers who are judges, lawyers, researchers and experts operating in the legal profession in ASEAN countries. The conference consisted of 5 sessions with the themes: Women and children; Solutions to ASEAN's social problems (culture, education, health, etc); the Guards of ASEAN; Environment and AI Artificial Intelligence.
In addition to holding side seminars, the Southeast Asian Law Association organized the ASEAN MOOT 2023 for ASEAN law students. Participating in the ASEAN MOOT 2023 competition, there were the participants of 7 teams from Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. This is the first time this initiative was implemented within the framework of the ASEAN Law Association General Assembly. Representing the Vietnam’s team to attend ASEAN MOOT the Hanoi Law University’s moot team includes 5 students (03 official team members: Duong Hoai Nam Phuong, Dang Thu Hien, Nguyen Van Anh and 02 alternate members: Nguyen Nhat Quang and Nguyen Thao Quyen).The Hanoi Law University team went to the semi-final round and was ranked in the 3rd place among the all participating teams, and student Duong Hoai Nam Phuong won the third prize (second runner-up) of "Best Mooter" .
Within the framework of the congress, GALA Dinner is held on the evening of October 21st with the participation of more than 500 delegates from ASEAN countries to promote relations, close cooperation and mutual understanding of traditional elements and national cultural identity of each country.
The 14th ASEAN Law Association General Assembly has completed successfully. Hanoi Law University has significantly contributed to the Vietnam Delegation’s participation in this event. This is a good opportunity for lecturers and students of the University to participate more deeply in international activities, contributing to improving the quality of research and training of the University and especially contributing to enhancing the position of Hanoi Law University in the region and creating opportunities to develop new partnerships with prestigious law schools and legal professional organizations in Southeast Asia.
