Foreign NGOs help reduce poverty

Eleven international NGOs operating in Vietnam have committed 89.8 million USD in grants to poverty-stricken localities in 2009, according to the People’s Aid Coordinating Committee (PACCOM).
The Committee, attached to the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), gives the following breakdowns:

Democratizing international relations

In the present globalized world, democratization of international relations represents a legitimate and urgent demand of all nations, remarks a concept paper coming out of a VPDF-sponsored study.
The paper, enriched at an international roundtable in Hanoi on September 25-26, says notably:

VUFO Vice-President meets Japanese researchers

VUFO’s Executive Vice-President Mr. Trần Đắc Lợi on December 29 had an hours’ long discussion with a group of Japanese researchers, currently on a study tour in Vietnam. The 11-member group was headed by Mr. Yoshiatsu Takamura, Director of the Hiroshima Community Law Office.

Roundtable discusses financial crisis

A VPDF-sponsored roundtable on the current global financial crisis and its impacts on Vietnam was held in Hanoi on December 23, with over 30 researchers from various institutions taking part.

The participants dealt with various aspects of the crisis, its causes and development, remedial measures taken by different countries so far, and lessons drawn therefrom about the roles that could be played by the market and the State in shaping a least vulnerable possible national economy in the conditions of globalization.

VUFO holds 4th Congress

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) held its Fourth Congress in Hanoi on December 18, with 241 delegates from 54 national and 33 provincial/municipal member organizations taking part.
Mr. Lê Đức Anh, former President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Doan, Vice-President of the SRV; Mrs. Tòng Thị Phóng, Vice-President of the National Assembly; Mr. Trương Tấn Sang, Politburo member and Executive Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee; Mr. Phạm Gia Khiêm, Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Foreign Minister; and other senior Party and Government officials were present.
