Presentations included:
-    “The Source of Banking Crisis in 1998: Indonesian Case”, by Gatot
Arya Putra,  Indonesian Institute for Research and Strategic Analysis, Jakarta;
-    “Banking System of Vietnam – Problems and Causes”, by Nguyễn Quang Thái, Vice-President, Vietnam Economic Association, Hanoi;
-    “Restructuring the Banking Sector in Times of Crisis – Lessons from Indonesia”, by Gatot Arya Putra, Indonesian Institute for Research and Strategic Analysis, Jakarta;
-    “Restructuring the Banking Sector in Vietnam – Suggestions for Solutions”, by Võ Trí Thành, Deputy-Director, Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM), Hanoi.
During the ensuing discussions, while taking note of the differences in the situation in Indonesia in 1998 and in Vietnam currently, both domestically and internationally, speakers pointed to the many similarities conducive to relevant lessons. Recapitalization of uncompetitive businesses, moral hazards, inadequate monitoring of private businesses’ foreign debts, and non-performing loans represented major problems, they emphasized./.
