Vietnam-France Association marks 60th anniversary
Hundreds of people from different parts of Vietnam celebrated on June 27 in Hanoi the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam - France Friendship and Cooperation Association (VFFCA) (02 July 1955 – 2015).
Nguyễn Thị Bình, former Vice-President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Nguyễn Thị Hoàng Vân, Vice-President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations; Jean-Noël Poirier, French Ambassador in Hanoi; and Nguyễn Huy Quang, President of VFFCA; attended the celebration.
Also present were representatives of Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry, External Relations Commission of the Communist Party Central Committee, and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Other participants included leaders of VFFCA’s local organizations in Hanoi, Haiphong, and Hải Dương, Quảng Ninh, Thừa Thiên - Huế, Long An and Đồng Tháp provinces, alumni of French learning institutions, and French-language teachers and students of Hanoi universities and colleges.
VFFCA’s President Nguyễn Huy Quang underlined its growth and performance during the past 60 years. As one of the earliest Vietnamese entities engaged in people-to-people diplomacy, VFFCA has now 20 municipal or provincial affiliated organizations and 4 Hanoi-based grassroots chapters, with thousands of members. Starting with cultivation of new relations in the post-war period, VFFCA has ever since made significant contributions to promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Vietnam and France, thereby helping develop constantly comprehensive relations between the two countries, he noted.
Ambassador Jean-Noël Poirier, who speaks Vietnamese fluently, highlighted the ever-growing relations between the two countries over the last six decades, notably in the fields of culture and education. With the founding of an organization for friendship with France just one year after the Vietnamese victory at Điện Biên Phủ in 1954, Vietnam has demonstrated in practice its desire to open a new page in the relations between the two countries, one of peace and cooperation, the Ambassador remarked./.
