International tribunal: America should compensate Vietnamese AO victims

The International Peoples’ Tribunal of Conscience, sitting in Paris on May 15th-16th, has concluded that the US Government and chemical companies should compensate Vietnamese victims of the toxic Agent Orange used by the US military during the Vietnam war.

Researchers weigh potential impacts of ASEAN-EU FTA on Vietnam

Large potentials for expanding ASEAN-EU trade remain unexploited, and an ASEAN-EU Free Trade Agreement would benefit Vietnam, of which export has always been a key growth factor. But, moving toward free trade has never been purely beneficial, and engaging in FTAs presents enormous challenges to the country, which is developing rapidly but with high vulnerability to external shocks and low risk management capacity. The social and environmental impacts can also be detrimental.

Doha round and South-South solidarity

The current world financial crisis has taken a toll on both North and South, but it is also a very good opportunity to move out of the concept of free trade to regulated and negotiated trade. Developing countries wish the Doha Round to be a Development Round, but this can only be achieved when they unite and struggle.
