Foreign NGOs help reduce poverty

Eleven international NGOs operating in Vietnam have committed 89.8 million USD in grants to poverty-stricken localities in 2009, according to the People’s Aid Coordinating Committee (PACCOM).
The Committee, attached to the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), gives the following breakdowns:


- World Vision International: 12 million USD for development projects focusing on hunger eradication and poverty reduction in Điện Biên, Yên Bái, Thanh Hoá, Quảng Trị, Quảng Nam and Quảng Ngãi provinces;
- Habitat for Humanity International: 2.5 million USD for housing projects in Kiên Giang, Tiền Giang and Hải Dương provinces;
- ChildFund Australia: 3.5 million USD for hunger eradication, poverty reduction and other development projects in Hoà Bình, Bắc Kạn and Cao Bằng provinces;
- Oxfam Hongkong: 1.8 million USD for hunger eradication, poverty reduction and other development projects in Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Trị and Đăk Nông provinces;
- Atlantic Philanthropies: 25 million USD for healthcare projects, notably commune-level healthcare stations, in Thái Nguyên, Thừa Thiên - Huế and Vĩnh Long provinces;
- Mines Advisory Group, UK: 3 million USD for mine clearing and resettllement projects in Quảng Trị, Quảng Bình and Phú Thọ provinces;
- ActionAid International: 3 million USD for poverty reduction and development projects in Hà Giang, Quảng Ninh, Hà Tĩnh, Ninh Thuận, Đăk Lăk, Vĩnh Long, Lai Châu, Sóc Trăng, Dăk Nông, Hải Phòng, Cao Bằng and Điện Biên provinces;
- East Meets West Foundation, USA: 20 million USD for projects related to poverty reduction, heart surgery targeting difficulty-ridden children, healthcare and education in Thái Nguyên, Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Thừa Thien - Huế, Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi and Phú Yên provinces;
- Orbis International: 2 million USD for opthalmologic projects, notably cataract surgery, in Thái Nguyên, Hà Nam, Hà Tĩnh and Yên Bái provinces;
- Care International: 8 million USD for hunger eradication, poverty reduction and development projects in Hoà Bình, Điện Biên, Thái Nguyên, Bắc Kạn, An Giang, Sóc Trăng and Cà Mau provinces;
- Ford Foundation: 9 million USD for education, cultural and healthcare projects in Thái Nguyên, Quảng Nam and Thừa Thiên - Huế provinces./.
