ASEAN People’s Forum planned for September

The Sixth ASEAN People’s Forum is scheduled for September 23rd-26th in Hanoi, according to the Vietnam Organizing Committee (VOC).
The VOC on June 11th made public the Forum Concept Paper adopted by the First Preparatory Consultative Meeting held in Hanoi on May 29th-30th.

Danang Declaration pushes for women’s empowerment
“A change of focus toward more women empowerment” has been recommended by the 6th Regional Roundtable on MDGs’ implementation held in the Vietnamese port of Đà Nẵng on April 22nd-23rd and hosted by the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation (VPDF).
The Roundtable’s final document, to be jointly presented by the VPDF and the Japan-based Peace Boat to the ECOSOC and the UN General Assembly in New York next July, reads in full:

Vietnamese women now account for 25.76% of National Assembly deputies, 23.8% of Provincial People’s Council members, 51.22% of college students, 49.4% of the labor force, and 41.12% of enterprise owners and managers.

NAM for implementation of DOC in South China Sea

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has expressed the hope for effective implementation of the ASEAN-China Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.

VPDF representative on rethinking development models

The current global crisis has provided humanity with an opportunity to rethink development models and search for people-centered alternatives to the present domineering profit-driven model. Rescue measures and stimulus packages could solve immediate economic-financial problems, but cannot save this inhuman model from a recurrence of crisis in the medium and long term.
So said Mr. Trần Đắc Lợi, Vice-President of VPDF, in a contribution to an international seminar themed “Rethinking Models of Development in the Context of the Global Crises” co-organized in Hanoi on October 26th-27th by VPDF and the Hanoi Office of the German Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung.
